San Francisco and the Bay Area serve as an example for the entire state of California in the struggle against drought. The city boasts one of the most efficient water networks in the United States, with a per-capita consumption equal to half the average of the state. Thanks to an investment programme that has modernised its network, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission that provides water to 2.7 million residents has become a pioneer in the reuse of water.
