The Colorado River might be one of the most important resources of the U.S. southwest, but it is under threat. The latest to raise the alarm is the Bureau of Reclamation of the U.S. Department of the Interior. It foresees a strong likelihood that the level of the river’s waters will greatly diminish in the coming years. The fact that 2018 was the driest in 19 years is a bad omen for a river that provides water and enerby to seven states where 40 million people reside. But climate change, demographics and excessive exploitation of its waters are depleting it in a dramatic way. Among the states through which the river flows like California, a more sustainable management of the precious resource is urgently needed.
