The infrastructure sector might employ a large swatch of the U.S. workforce, but it lacks two qualities that will prove crucial for the success of President Donald Trump’s $1.5-trillion proposal to renew the country’s roads and railways: youth and expertise. Workers are ageing and approaching retirement, while construction sites require a skill set often not found among the younger generation. Training is required, and some programmes have taken the lead in helping companies get the workers they need to build and maintain the infrastructure necessary for the country to grow.
