The construction site of the M4 in Milan celebrated the feast day of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners and tunnels workers. On December 4, work on the sites was halted to remember the martyr and pay tribute to those who work on large infrastructure projects such as the line that will have a significant impact on the future of sustainable mobility in Milan. Commissioned by the city, the work has approached the Navigli network of canals, one of the historic parts of the city. The tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) work under the city with a series of sophisticated and innovative systems that allow engineers to monitor their impact on the city’s heritage in real time. These technologies were tested in the construction of Cityringen, the Copenhagen metro inaugurated on September 29 by Queen Margrethe II. The M4 timetable calls for the first section of the line to open in 2021. The entire length of the M4 will be completely in 2023. M4 will connect Linate Airport to the city centre in just 12 minutes. It will be able to transport up to 86 million people every year.
