In his State of the Union Address, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Congress to work on bipartisan legislation to unleash billions of dollars of investment on the country’s ageing infrastructure. He urged the two dominant political parties to set aside their differences to work on an issue that was of common interest. On the same day as Trump’s address, industry bodies like the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) reiterated the cost of doing nothing, saying that the poor state of the country’s roads, bridges and transit systems cost the average family $3,400 a year.
