New South Wales and other states in Australia are calling on the federal government to join them in their efforts to keep the economy resilient by spending more on infrastructure. Although tens of billions are already being spent to improve services for a growing population, they argue more is needed as the economy is starting to show signs of weakness after 28 years of unprecedented growth. Even the Reserve Bank of Australia, the country’s central bank, is urging the government to do more, saying monetary policy was not enough to reduce unemployment and help raise wages.
