Sustainable, innovative, multi-functional and open seven days a week. The new sports stadiums of the future are all these things and more. They are complex infrastructures where the most modern technologies improve the spectator’s experience. In Europe, where 159 new stadiums have been built over the past decade, we can point to the Tottenham stadium or the Arsenal Emirates Stadium. The Qatar World Cup is pushing the ball forward on this front. FIFA has drawn up a series of guidelines calling for sustainable structures, as demonstrated by the construction of the Al Bayt Stadium, built by Salini Impregilo. Plans are also under way in Italy, which has lagged behind. A study by StageUp, a consulting firm specialized in the sector, calculates that the construction of new stadiums in Italy would guarantee investments of €4 billion in the next ten years, creating 85,000 jobs and increasing the total turnover of Serie A by 25%.
