From Tahiti to the Principality of Monaco, several projects to build floating cities are in the works. These futuristic plans call for cities surrounded by the sea that will be completely self-sufficient. That’s what is happening in French Polynesia, where a modular city will be built at less than a kilometer away from the coast, with 11 square or pentagonal platforms, each 700 square meters in size, built from reinforced concrete and connected to one another by bridges. The development will have residences, a hotel, restaurants and offices. Something similar is already being built in Monte Carlo, in the Principality of Monaco, where construction is underway on a gargantuan floating city that will cost 2-3 billion euros. According to estimates, residential real estate will be priced at between 80,000-100,000 euros per square meter – meaning that the builders could reap 5 billion euros from the sale, or double the forecasted construction costs.
