Large infrastructure projects are what is driving growth today in the European construction industry. Output, or revenue, in infrastructure is seen growing by 3% per year between 2019 and 2021, with Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands in the lead, according to Cresme, the Italian research centre specialized in the industry. This should help the construction industry to maintain a positive trend for the next two years, when growth should reach around 1.5%. Cresme presented its study at the 87th Euroconstruct Conference held in Rome on June 12-13. It sees the Italian market growing more than France and Germany in the next two years. But some key problems need to be solved, like consolidation in the Italian industry and getting work started again on strategic construction sites that have been on hold.
