The latest alarm on the poor state of U.S. infrastructure has been sounded by the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, which estimates that more than $70 billion must be spent to rehabilitate the country’s dams. Some 15,000 dams are at risk, 11,000 of which extremely so, as much for the economy as for people’s lives. The alarm has been raised ahead of the National Dam Safety Awareness Day, which is held every year on May 31.
