|The Bjørnafjord bridge will be the longest floating bridge in the world: five kilometres (3.1 miles) from one bank to the other, with a central suspended span of 300 metres (984 feet) long over a Norwegian fjord that is 550 metres (1,804 feet) deep.
The Norwegian Public Road Administration has recently selected the design for the project, which will start construction in 2022 with a pricetag of $1.3 billion. The work is part of the National Transport Plan, the investment plan that aims to improve Norway’s mobility. It includes the construction of an underwater tunnel across Sognefiord, Norway's largest fjord. The plan calls for other infrastructure works like a series of railway projects, including the upgrading of the stretch between the cities of Nykirke and Barkaker, awarded to a consortium led by Salini Impregilo.|
