Last year saw a record number of new “supertall” skyscrapers: 18 towers exceeding 300 metres in height, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) in its annual report. The year saw 143 high-rise buildings towering at a height of over 200 metres get completed. Leading this race to the sky is China, with 88 buildings, followed by the United States (13), the United Arab Emirates (10), Malaysia (7), Indonesia (5), and Thailand and South Korea (three each). The tallest building was China’s CITIC Tower, which with its 528 metres has become the tallest skyscraper in Beijing.
