Norway is spending 340 billion Norwegian krones ($40 billion) on a new highway amid the fjords to improve in a major way transport links in one of the most fascinating regions of the world. The highway, which will enhance the old E39, will run for more than 1,000 kilometres, cutting travel times from 21 to 10 hours along its entire length. It will be made possible thanks to several large infrastructure works (underground tunnels and suspension bridges) that will allow travellers to cross the fjords without having to load their cars onto ferries. The Norway Public Road Administration estimates that the general cost of bringing the goods from one end of the country to the other via will fall by 50%.
