In the latest example of the foresight of Australian cities, Brisbane is looking at expanding a metro network before it is even built. It has yet to choose who will bring it into existence but it has already started talking about quadrupling its coverage of the city. At a cost of AUD$944 million, the Brisbane Metro will have two lines stretching 21 kilometres. There will be 18 stations, many of which will be connected to the city’s existing bus and rail services. In anticipation of a surge in population as its economy grows at a similar dynamic pace as the rest of the country, Brisbane is talking about spending AUD$20 billion to expand the network, according to a news report.
