Infrastructure is essential to a country’s development. In this regard, Webuild has played a crucial role over its 120-year history, having completed more than 3,200 major infrastructure projects worldwide, from dams, railways, and metro systems to suspension bridges, highways, and beyond.
1. Dams and Hydropower Plants
For over a century, Webuild has harnessed water as a force to create clean hydroelectric energy. Hydroelectric dams, hydropower plants, and hydroelectric conduits rise in every corner of the world, bringing light where there was once only silence.
Projects like the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Snowy 2.0 in Australia reflect a shared vision: using the power of nature to build a more sustainable future. Every drop that flows into hydroelectric power plants becomes part of a collective ingenuity capable of generating water energy for millions of people.
2. Railways and High-Speed Lines
Tracks that bring places and people closer together: Webuild has built railways and high-speed lines across the globe, reducing travel times and cutting emissions. In Perth, the Airport Line connects the airport to the city center in just 20 minutes, taking thousands of vehicles off the roads and contributing to a more sustainable future.
Each railway project reflects the same vision: transforming mobility into something faster, cleaner, and more connected, where every train becomes part of a collective ingenuity.
3. Metro Systems, Including Milan’s Line 4
Public transport that transforms cities and the lives of those who live in them: Webuild has built over 1,000 km of metro systems worldwide, from Milan to Doha, from Santiago to Riyadh.
In Milan, Line M4 connects Linate Airport to the city center in just a few minutes, removing hundreds of thousands of vehicles from the roads every day and reducing CO₂ emissions.
Each sustainable project is more than an engineering feat: it’s a piece of the city reborn. Stations, squares, and revitalized urban spaces become symbols of greener, more efficient, and better-connected mobility.
4. Bridges, Including Suspension Bridges
Bridges that connect continents and cultures: Webuild has built over 1,020 km of bridges and viaducts worldwide, from Recco to Braila, from Genoa to Long Beach. Each structure is an engineering response to a geographic challenge, a symbol of progress and connection.
The Braila Bridge, inaugurated in 2023 with its 1,120-meter central span, is the second-longest suspension bridge in Europe. The Genoa San Giorgio Bridge, rebuilt in just 15 months after the 2018 collapse, gave the city a new vibrant heart. Every bridge tells a story of resilience, innovation, and sustainable future.
5. Highways, Including Autostrada del Sole (Autostrada A1)
In 1956, Giovanni Gronchi laid the first stone of the Autostrada del Sole (Autostrada A1), destined to become Italy’s backbone. In just eight years, the Italian highway stretched 760 km, connecting Milan to Naples through 113 viaducts, 572 overpasses, and 35 tunnels.
Inaugurated in 1964, the Autostrada del Sole not only united the country but also accelerated economic recovery, allowing goods to travel faster across the peninsula and improving the quality of life for Italians.
6. Stadiums, Including San Siro Stadium
Each stadium is a place where passion becomes architecture. Webuild has designed and built iconic venues such as Milan’s San Siro Stadium (Giuseppe Meazza Stadium), Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, Bucharest’s Lia Manoliu Stadium, and Doha’s Al-Bayt Stadium.
The latter, constructed for the 2022 World Cup, is a technological tent in the desert, capable of hosting 60,000 spectators and equipped with advanced climate control systems and sustainable solutions.
Each project tells a story of innovation, sustainability, and a love for sport.
