From the Naples Metro to Expo 2025, the Winners at the BIG SEE Architecture Awards

Among the architectural projects that triumphed this year, some stand out for innovation, urban regeneration and environmental sustainability – such as the San Pasquale Naples’ metro station and the Kuwait pavilion for Expo Osaka 2025.

Creativity, innovation, and sustainability merge in some of the year’s most original architectural ideas. The most outstanding among them are honored with the BIG SEE Architecture Award, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the field.

With dozens of noteworthy projects, we’ve selected four to highlight.

1. San Pasquale Station, Naples’ Metro: A Virtuous Example of Urban Regeneration

San Pasquale station on NaplesMetro Line 6, built by Webuild, is conceived as a “dizzying descent into the sea” across five underground levels.

Blue-paneled walls evoke ocean waves, while corten steel structures with portholes (which also serve as lighting elements) and a multimedia sail-shaped metal mesh suggest the image of a sunken ship.

Part of the “Art Stations” circuit, this Naples subway station contributes to the urban renewal of Largo Pignatelli.

2. Sea Survival Centre: An Architectural Design Projects Where Functionality and Minimalist Style Merge

The Sea Survival Centre at the Naval Academy of Varna is a cutting-edge architectural design project built over four levels, directly integrated with the existing pool.

Equipped with a tank featuring 5D simulators (waves, smoke, rain, submerged helicopter), it also includes a 7.5-meter tower for specialized training.

Its minimalist architecture in aluminum, titanium, and glass combines functionality with contemporary aesthetics, enhancing the Academy’s prestige.

3. House in Torremocha: The House that Defies the Slope

Built on a steeply sloped plot, the house unfolds through a series of terraces and retaining walls that create horizontal platforms overlooking the landscape.

Its two interior levels are adapted to the seasons: the upper floor, sunlit and equipped with a fireplace, is designed for winter use, while the lower level, partially underground and naturally insulated, opens onto the pool and the horizon.

Both interact with the surrounding scenery in distinct ways, through focused views and broad openings.

4. Visionary Lighthouse: Kuwait’s Vision at Expo Osaka 2025

Kuwait’s pavilion for Expo Osaka 2025, designed by LAVA, brings the country’s “Vision 2035” to life through a tactile and immersive architectural experience.

Inspired by coastal desert landscapes, the nation’s trading heritage, and Kuwaiti hospitality, the wing-shaped roof symbolizes generosity, while organic geometries guide visitors through immersive and functional spaces.

Traditional craftsmanship blends with digital innovation in a sensory journey that that brings to the Osaka Expo a celebration of Kuwait’s cultural heritage and a bold outlook toward the future.
