The Bruce Highway Upgrade Program and the new road that will cross Queensland

It is the largest road project in Queensland’s history, a unique work that aims to upgrade and partly reconstruct 1,677 kilometres (1,042 miles) of highway connecting the capital city of Brisbane with the city of Cairns, world-famous for its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef.

Launched in 2013, the Bruce Highway Upgrade Programme aims to modernise one of Australia’s most important arterial roads through a total investment of A$13 billion (US$9.2 billion).
