Ports are more than junctions and simple docking points for ships and goods: they are becoming true hubs of environmental innovation and sustainability.
More and more cities around the world are turning flow management, energy, and infrastructure into an opportunity to reduce environmental impact and enhance their territories. The challenge? Proving that the economy and the health of the planet can travel in the same direction.
1 – Port of Constanța
In the port of Constanța, Webuild has transformed the breakwaters with interventions that combine engineering and environmental sustainability.
Over 12 kilometers of outer dams have been reinforced using selected materials and low-impact design solutions, such as natural rocks and “Stabilopod” units that protect the coastline without altering the marine ecosystem.
The Romanian port is now an example of how infrastructure regeneration can become a model of safety and resilience, demonstrating that ports and the environment can grow together.
2 – Marina di Pescara
The Marina di Pescara also stands out for its commitment to environmental sustainability. By reducing emissions and prioritizing the use of renewable energy, the port has become a model of responsible and innovative management.
Here, safety, efficiency, and environmental protection coexist, proving that a port can be both a strategic infrastructure and a laboratory for sustainable practices.
3 – Port of Rotterdam
The Port of Rotterdam, the biggest port in Europe, is an international example of sustainability.
Through initiatives to reduce emissions, promote renewable energy, and introduce shore-side electricity for vessels, the Netherlands port combines logistical efficiency with environmental innovation, reaffirming itself as a model where industry and respect for the planet coexist.
4 – Port of Long Beach
The Port of Long Beach has been recognized as the “Best Green Seaport” globally for its environmental commitment. Thanks to its Green Port Policy and programs such as the Clean Air Action Plan, the Los Angeles port has significantly reduced emissions and improved air and water quality.
Meanwhile, Webuild has contributed with the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, a modern and safe cable-stayed bridge that replaces the old structure, improving access to the port of Los Angeles even for large vessels. It is a project that combines infrastructural efficiency with sustainable innovation.
5 – Port of Kaohsiung
The Port of Kaohsiung received the 2021 IAPH award for “Resilient Physical Infrastructure,” thanks to its ambitious 2017–2021 Master Plan.
The plan includes projects for the reconstruction of the Intercontinental Container Terminal (ICT), the redevelopment of the Taiwan old port with urban parks and a pedestrian bridge, all built using low-impact construction methods and green techniques.
