The New Panama Canal

It took seven years of work and the weight of more than a century of history to arrive at the completion of a colossal work. It is a journey that ends on June 26, the day of the inauguration of the new Panama Canal. The most complex and ambitious engineering project in the world, it was built by Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC), an international joint-venture in which Salini Impregilo was a strategic partner.
In anticipation of the inaugural event, which will bring together heads of state and government, “We Build Value” covers the new Canal in a special edition that revisits all of the phases that led to the completion of the project: the history, the innovative technology, the respect for the principles of sustainability, and the big economic impact that the Canal will have on Panama and its people. The passage of Post-Panamax ships, giants of the sea capable of carrying 14,000 containers, will attract international trade routes, bringing annual revenue of $2.5 billion to $6 billion.
It is a big victory for Panama, a source of pride for those who did the project, helping give a boost to the country’s economy and influence the flows of global trade.
