Investments and innovation on America’s university campuses

From Yale to UChicago Medicine, from the University of Minnesota to the University of Utah, American universities are starting to invest again in infrastructure: campuses, scientific laboratories, green buildings, and sports facilities. Nearly $2 billion has been announced in recent months on redevelopment projects.

There are some 5,300 colleges in the U.S., of which 1,626 are public. In California alone there are 300, and the states of New York and Texas each have 200. The uptick in investments has led to a new season of large-scale projects based above all on sustainability and innovation. Yale University, for example, has just announced a $350 million project for the construction of a zero-emission building dedicated to engineering and quantum and material sciences.
